WinterFun was incorporated in November 1984 as a not-for-profit Wisconsin corporation, qualified as an art and education tax-exempt entity under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The company was organized by Don Berg, Gene Kempfer and others as a vehicle for enhancing the appreciation of snow sculpting in the United States and to consult, create and produce local, state, national and international snow sculpting competitions.
WinterFun, Inc. is the only organization authorized by the Association International de Sculpture sur Neige et Glace to hold sanctioned State, National and International Snow Sculpting Competitions in the United States. Association International de Sculpture sur Neige et Glace is a group of 13 member nations that all produce international competitions and is the exclusive sanctioning body for the Olympic Winter Games Arts Festival International Snow Sculpting Competition.
Since its formation, WinterFun produced 30 U.S. National and 16 U.S. International competitions
